Meeting Minutes for “April” (May 1st) Meeting

All:

We had a good meeting, with 8 members in attendance. Thanks for the cooperation in delaying the meeting from Easter weekend!

We went over and closed out a number of action items from the previous meeting. I gave the zazzle check for our T-shirts to Dan, so the finances from last summer’s T-shirt sales at the convention are finally closed!

We went over Bob Z’s upcoming visit to Dallas, to speak to a joint AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) / ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) / Mars Society meeting. This will be held at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) planetarium from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on June 16, a Thursday. Hors d’oeuvres are planned to be provided, which will provide a meet, eat, and greet opportunity to mix with Bob Z.

We talked about a variety of issues for the convention, now only 3 months (!!!) away! There were details of posters, T-shirts, AV equipment needs, sponsors, publicity, local tours, and our ‘Mars 101’ public outreach track to discuss and come up with ideas on.

Some areas:

-We had talked about bringing a mock spacesuit to the convention for a display, but we may be able to get suits in better shape from one of the West Coast Mars Society chapters rather than the heavily worn ones from MDRS.

-plans were made for several members to bring flyers to the ISDC and to the Sci-Fi conventions, coming up in May.

-I will be talking at the SMU gifted students conference, and handing out flyers on the convention there so the word is getting out!

Also, be sure to keep in touch with the national site at http://www.marssociety.org/ as additional speakers are announced!

We also gathered ideas for outreach and contacts, and action items (sent out separately), so there is plenty of things for us to do…

See you May 29! Kurt
