Minutes from our March 2011 meeting

The meeting opened with a discussion of Messenger’s historic orbit around Mercury and it’s first images from Mercury’s surface (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/messenger/main/index.html).

We discussed NASA’s spacecraft Juno, which will study Jupiter.  Juno is planned to launch in August (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/main/index.html).

We also discussed the Mars Science Laboratory which is also scheduled to launch later this year (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/index.html).

We congratulated Markus Iske on the winning poster design for the 2011 Mars Society convention.  Markus’ winning design can be viewed here: http://www.marssociety.org/home/press/announcements/marssocietyannounces2011postercontestwinner.

We reviewed action items from last month’s meeting and covered convention planning topics.  The conversation was lively and a number of great ideas were discussed.

We appreciated and thank the National Space Society (NSS) Dallas chapter for their donation of convention advertising funding.

Last, we discussed the International Space Development Conference (ISDC) which will be held in Alabama this year http://isdc.nss.org/2011/.
